Microsoft US Digital Transformation Academy

Microsoft US Digital Transformation Academy

As a Microsoft Gold Partner, we’re excited to be onsite at the annual Microsoft Digital Transformation Academy in Las Vegas this week. It’s one of the most important events of the year for our Orion team and one that I personally enjoy attending for several reasons. As more and more companies embark on their own digital transformations, it gives us an opportunity to share our perspectives on what these complex projects actually require and how they can be executed most effectively.

With over 25 years of experience helping companies develop custom roadmaps for their digital transformation journeys, we know that those who succeed link together three core principles – strategy, user-experience and technology. True digital transformation requires all three to be seamlessly tied together to meet your organization’s larger business goals. Here’s a closer look:

  • 1. Stay Strategic: Every aspect of your digital transformation should align with your company’s business strategy. Getting too tactical or focused on a one off digital launch is a risky proposition that can steer any organization’s transformation off course. It’s critical to always have your eye on customer growth, operational efficiency, and staying ahead of the market curve.
  • 2. Customer First: At the end of the day – the customer always comes first. Thoughtful customer experience and user-centric product management need to drive your digital transformation efforts. That requires a deep dive into the whole picture from a customer’s perspective. Ensuring niche technologies (AI, blockchain, etc.) integrate perfectly with design and functionality for example are paramount. Successful digital transformation brings in all aspects of customer experience.
  • 3. Right Technology: It’s easy for companies to jump on the new tech bandwagon. Hearing a lot of buzz around voice, chatbots and other digital tools often leads businesses to apply these technologies without considering how they’ll fit with their company’s integrated systems. While these technologies can make you sound like you’re advancing your solution set they shouldn’t be considered unless the business case is sound, secure and tested.

Digital transformation doesn’t come easy. It’s a complex project fraught with risks but done correctly – it can mean the difference between survival and extinction.
